The other half of the people that aren't mentioned on this list are people that are "Seasonal Employees" who get paid $10 hour to perform jobs that noone else in this world would want to do with no benefits...no sick days...no vacations....in order to one day become a full time employee with the Town of Hempstead. Try waking up at 5am everyday and then picking up garbage at 6am in 37 degree pouring rain or physically going to the back of someone's house in Merrick to get there garbage which is considered backdoor service for either $10 an hour or $70k a year. You are all complaining about the 70k a year guy. You don't realize that half of those people that are making that $70k-$150k a year, were once making minimum wage with the Town of Hempstead 20-30 years ago. Being one of the people on this compiled list and seeing those posting here who have no clue and no idea. Here is the raw facts WE DO EARN OUR MONEY. With many retiring and no hiring going on many employees are made to do a job that would take 6 people to do with only 2 people and do it with often seriously outdated equipment. Another thing you think the 45k I make a year covers my mortgage, utilities, property taxes (Yes i pay taxes just like you contrary to popular belief just because i work for the town dose not make me exempt from any taxes))and all personal bills like car insurance, medical copays,so on and so forth guess what it dosnt go very far. And no I am not political so stop blaming the Republicans for everything the Democrat's have done there fair share of screwing crap up as well. So there may be some that do not deserve what they are making but guess what about 90% of the work force does I would love to see all of you shooting off your mouths here do the work me and my fellow coworkers do for what we get paid and tell me then that we are overpaid and do nothing just remember that next time your garbadge is picked up or your streets or sidewalks is being fixed or when you see workers busting there butts in 90+ dagree weather working in there park or maintaining the beaches so you can enjoy a day there until you have walked a day in my or one of the other employees shoes you really should take your foot out your mouth befor doing so and see what really goes on in a day on the job for us. In my view, part of the reason she keeps getting elected over and over again is that she really hasn't had to contend with a strong opposition candidate waging a vigorous campaign. No doubt the electorate is asleep at the wheel, as noted by previous bloggers, but they can be aroused, especially when you start talking about their tax dollars.

At the very least, if the single data-point noted above - a $140,000,000 payroll - could have been loudly and prominently highlighted in the recent election; or if the bogus notion that Murray has actually "frozen" taxes could have been vigorously challenged; or even if the patronage abuses that are so rampant in Hempstead could been brought out into the open air of an active campaign, I believe that, at the very least, there would be more accountability on the part of Murray and her gang in the future. I'm not talking about just mentioning these issues in a debate or listing them on some web site somewhere, I'm talking about a well-funded, well-executed "in your face" campaign. But none of this happened, allowing Kate and her friends to happily exploit the voter apathy in Hempstead to their own advantage. This is the by-product of a virtually non-existent opposition, which was further reinforced by Newsday and its irresponsible decision to endorse the Murray regime in the face of such obvious problems. Yes, the voters are asleep at the wheel, but the voters also have a right to expect a viable two-party system and a local newspaper with higher standards when it comes to handing out endorsements. Only when these things start happening will we get some progress.Questionauthoritynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14091116.post-30242613488720281422009-11-09T23:16:26.329-05:002009-11-09T23:16:26.329-05:00yup-
