Assessments don't cause high property taxes, government spending does. You want to lower taxes? Cut spending and consolidate unnecessary government. That's what happens in the private sector.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14091116.post-59762625626211452062010-01-04T13:54:02.823-05:002010-01-04T13:54:02.823-05:00I wonder what Mangano's position is on taking ...I wonder what Mangano's position is on taking over control of the school districts. Suozzi supported it (although late when he knew he was on the way out). Do we really need 50+ superintendents all making 6 figure salaries?
How about scrapping the whole assessment system in favor of an income tax?
How about a 5-10% reduction in the number of employees, freezing the salaries of current employees, and finally bringing some common sense pension reform?
Or how about Mangano getting behind the consolidation of those ridiculous special districts?
I'm giving Mangano the benefit of the doubt, but if he really wants to change property taxes in Nassau County, then he has to come up with some better ideas. I haven't heard any to date.Kates Gotta Gonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14091116.post-8289869099738359082010-01-04T10:06:39.042-05:002010-01-04T10:06:39.042-05:00This is why the on-going controversy about the ass...This is why the on-going controversy about the assessment system in Nassau County has been largely a waste of time, and the politicians who have focused on it for the purpose of scoring cheap political points (think Kate Murray) are either (a) stupid or (b) disingenous. I vote for b. That fact that Mangnano and our new controller have decided that "fixing" our assessment system is one of their highest priorities doesn't strike me as a terribly auspicious beginning to the new county administration.Questionauthoritynoreply@blogger.com
