If Only We Could All Be This Efficient

Speak (To Your Legislator) And You Will Be Heard!

From our friends -- and yours -- at Residents for Efficient Special Districts (RESD):

WRITE YOUR ELECTED OFFICIAL

RESD has developed a form letter to send to your elected officials in Albany to urge them to support Governor Spitzer's proposal to eliminate compensation and benefits for special taxing district commissioners. By removing pay and benefits, commissioners of special taxing districts will be on par with commissioners in fire districts and members of local school boards. If fire districts and school boards can operate effectively with volunteers who receive neither pay nor benefits, there is no reason to believe that special taxing districts can’t either.

Please copy and paste the text of the letter below into an email and then send to your elected official in Albany. We have provided the email addresses of all of the State Assemblymen and Senators below. It's time to let the people in Albany know that enough is enough.

Dear Assemblyman or Senator <<>>,

I am writing to urge you to support Governor Spitzer’s recent proposal to eliminate pay and benefits for commissioners of special taxing districts on Long Island. By doing so, you will be helping to lower taxes for your constituents. By removing pay and benefits, commissioners of special taxing districts will be on par with commissioners in fire districts and members of local school boards. If fire districts and school boards can operate effectively with volunteers who receive neither pay nor benefits, there is no reason to believe that special taxing districts can’t either. You have fought on behalf of taxpayers before and I believe this is an excellent opportunity to again show voters that keeping the cost of living at an affordable level on Long Island is a priority of yours. As someone who believes in efficient public service delivered in a cost effective manner, I am confident that you believe, as I do, that Governor Spitzer’s proposal is logical and reasonable. Thank you for your support on this critical issue to residents of your district.

Sincerely,

YOUR NAME
