The Dynamic Duo Of Oceanside

Murray, Santino Reveal Themselves As Town's Superheroes;
Villians, Scoundrels And Owners of 'No-Tell Motels' Beware

The Oceanside Motel -- purveyor of crime, smut, and sordid evil-doing for more than 20 years -- is no more. Condemned by the Town of Hempstead, the wrecker's ball came crashing down on the Oceanside on Monday, with Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Town Councilman Tony Santino on hand in gleeful celebration.

Of course, we at The Community Alliance predicted that the Oceanside Motel would fall just days before the election, masking the question that Town officials sidestepped for decades -- "What in tarnation took you guys so long?"

The demise of the Oceanside Motel was long overdue. Those who reside within earshot and eyeball have been calling for its closure for nearly a generation; their pleas, until now, falling upon deaf ears at Hempstead Town Hall.

Yes, elections have come and elections have gone, but none have been contested as is this election for TOH Supervisor. Never has the challenge been so real, the race so close, the confrontation so in the face of a party hanging on by its dirty fingernails to the last outpost under its unfettered control.

And so enter America's largest township's answer (who asked the question, we'll never know) to Batman & Robin; the Lone Ranger and Tonto (or is it Silver? No, he's the Assembly Speaker) reincarnate. "Look. Up in the sky. Its a bird. Its a plane. Its... Never mind. Its a bird..." The not ambiguously gay, but exceptionally giddy, larger-than-life wunderkinds -- the Town of Hempstead's own Krypton Kate and Titanium Tony.

"There's no need to fear. Murray and Santino are here!" And so it is written, at least in the Town's modest press release, that "Murray & Santino Demolish (the) Oceanside Motel" -- personally removing each brick!

Indeed, the opening line of the Town's release tells all: "Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Senior Councilman Anthony Santino today knocked down the Oceanside Motel's sign and tore down its walls."

They huffed and they puffed. They bent steel in their bare hands. They used their x-ray vision to peer behind motel room doors. They conjured up the Sta-Puff Marshmallow Man, who devoured the motel in a single bite.

Kate "The Mailinator" Murray -- able to rezone tall buildings in a single variance -- teams up with Tony "You'll Enjoy Paying More" Santino -- faster than a fleeting Sanitary District 1 Commissioner -- to wipe out crime, to freeze Town taxes (except in the Special Districts and where otherwise prohibited either by law or whim), and to pave the way for, well, the paving of a Town parking lot.

Today, the Oceanside Motel. Tomorrow -- or the day after that -- West Hempstead's Courtesy. No dastardly deed shall escape the keen detection of Murray & Santino, whose very names set quivering the souls of evil-doers and no-goodniks everywhere (except in the Special Districts and where otherwise prohibited either by law or whim).

No, not since Courageous Cat & Minute Mouse set out to scour the streets of Empire City, hot on the trail of the likes of Rodney Rodent, Shoo Shoo Fly, Professor Shaggy Dog, The Black Cat, Harry Gorilla, Iron Shark, Professor Noodle Stroodle and The Frog, a cigar-chomping amphibian who spoke in the gangster style of Edward G. Robinson, has Code enforcement meant so much to a community. "You've got nutin' on me, Courageous. Yeah. That's it. See. Nutin.'"

Kourageous Kate & Mini Murray. "Yeah, that's the ticket, see..." Hempstead Town is now safe for Demagoguery.

Motels crumble and fall -- eventually. Ordinances are enforced -- when we feel like it. The will of the people reigns supreme -- when we just might lose the election if we don't do something, and fast!

Why, even McGarrett and Dan-o, of Hawaii Five-O fame, didn't take this long to track down and capture the notorius Wo-Fat!

We applaud the closure and demolition of the Oceanside Motel, from which harrowing habitat, since the late 1960s, assaults have been committed upon the Oceanside community. Yet, we somehow have to pause to ask ourselves -- considering the assaults, rapes and murders that took place within the motel's walls during those many intervening years [including the 1988 slaying of an Elmont woman, beaten to death by a man after they smoked cocaine inside the motel, whose decomposing body was found hidden beneath a platform bed in her room.*] -- "Why did it take the elected officials of the Town of Hempstead so damn long [nearly 20 years since that heinous murder of 1988] to so much as react to a community's desperate cries for help?"

"Today is the beginning of a new and promising future for families in this neighborhood and throughout Oceanside," concludes Supervisor Murray in the Town's press release. "Today," by all reason, should have been 20 years ago. "Today" came too late for that slain Elmont woman, and too late for the glut of nameless victims of the Oceanside's "reign of terror." These are the injustices that cannot be covered over by brick pavers or illuminated by Victorian street lamps. These are the deep-rooted ineptitudes that cannot be erased from memory by self-proclaimed superheroes, who only now, after the dust has settled, ride into town to save the day.

  1. Lived in Oceanside all my life. The complaints about the Oceanside Motel have been legion and, as you say, ongoing, for at least as long as I can remember.

Odd how nobody at the Town was interested in ridding our community of this menace when positions were secure and elections were mere formalities.

Now, the Supervisor and our Councilman are basking in the glow of the wrecker's ball, patting themselves on the back (surprised no one has broken an arm) for what should have been accomplished years and years ago.

Are we to forget for how long and the many ways we've been overlooked and abandoned by the Town of Hempstead? Has the wolf not only donned sheep's clothing, but transformed himself from predator to man's best friend? I think not, and I give voters the benefit that they, too, will not be of jaded memory -- or so willing to forgive and forget -- on election day.

  2. Now comes the time for us to ride these "superheroes" out of town on a rail.

As Maxwell Smart used to say, having foibled yet again, "Missed it by that much."

TOH Supervisor Murray and the Town/County GOP Machine have been "missing it" for years, their failure to enforce or to take action the bain not only of Oceanside, but of every unincorpoated area within the township.

Keep your pavers and street lamps, Kate. We've seen the light and are about to pave the way for a new beginning at Hempstead Town Hall.

  3. YEAH AS ALWAYS THE DEMOCRATS ARE ALWAYS RIGHT & WITHOUT BLAME FOR ANYTHING???

I GUESS IF YOUR GOING TO START USING CARTOONS TO DESCRIBE CANDIDATES THEN I GUESS WE CAN DESCRIBE HARVEY LEVINSON & TOM SOUZZI AS "PINKY & THE BRAIN".

FEATURING HARVEY LEVINSON AS "THE BRAIN" & TOM SOUZZI AS "PINKY"

I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE COMMUNITY ALLIANCE ACCURATELY OR INACCURATELY POSTS NEXT - LIKE THE ONE ABOUT THE REPUBLICAN STEALING DEMOCRATIC SIGNS - YOU FORGOT TO LEAVE OUT THE PART THAT THE PERSON REMOVING THE SIGNS HAD THE OWNER OF THE PROPERTIES PERMISSION TO BE THERE & TO REMOVE THE SIGNS POSTED ON HIS PROPERTY???

MAYBE YOU'LL GET IT RIGHT NEXT TIME OR YOU'LL JUST KEEP PUTTING OUT YOUR OWN VERSION OF REALITY?

MY VERSION IS SIMPLE - TOM & HARVEY OUT, KATE & GREG IN, & THE LEGISLATURE - GETS A SWIFT KICK AND TURNS BACK TO A REPUBLICAN MAJORITY!!!

SO TRY AND SWALLOW THOSE WORDS - IF YOU CHOKE ON THEM - GOOD

  4. Even when you show people pictures they still don't believe. They have been stealing signs for years just like children. If you have nothing to fear and nothing to hide why would some signs bother you? Why must you play commericials that are so false they make people who know the truth laugh. No One is perfect but my God the facts are the facts. No new ideas and the same people will only mean the same complaints next year. Just one question for the Community Alliance, Wasn't the Ocean Side Motel the place where George Washinton Slept or should I say fooled around? How many more years do we have to wait for some enforcement? Did aqny one see Harvey give it to Kate on news 12? Without a photo she didn't have much to say about her property tax going down, now did she.

  5. Hey Pat, What facts are you talking about?

I guess you are just one of those people who always perceive things to be fact because you see it on the news, read it in the paper or see a posting here???

Heres a little tip - DON'T ALWAYS BELIEVE WHAT YOU SEE & READ!!!

I guess the CE signing next years budget & the legislature finalizing it just a week before elections was not a political stunt either huh???

Hey Pat my kids have this game at home it's called Where's Waldo, I think the Democrats should come out with own version and call it "Where's Harvey" because he's everywhere EXCEPT in his office doing work as the County Assessor!!

  6. Sorry but I have lived here since 1967 and I have all the facts that I need. This is one fact that no one can dispute. The Gop is for smaller Government with less taxes, Why are we the highest taxed with the largest government? Why are the republicans so afraid to consolidate all or some of the taxing districts to reduce our taxes? When will someone from the Gop try to put an end to the regressive school tax? Sorry I have lived here to long and seen my taxes go up to high, I need a change to at least talk about consolidation and ending the regressive school tax. My kids are not playing any games they are having a tough time finding a place they can afford and they are highly educated.

  7. To ncres4change: Need I remind you that the vote of the Nassau County Legislature to pass the Budget that the County Executive signed was UNANIMOUS. [That means that every Republican voted for it, too!] Must be a darn good budget!

Where's Harvey? He's out there fighting for the taxpayer, raising the important issues, and trying to bring change to a Town too long resistant to any change at all.

And Where's Kate? On every piece of mail we receive, reminding us that she has "no control" over what matters most in our communities.

  8. Well Pat I have lived here since 1966 and I would like to know what the Democratic party is for???

And if you and everyone else have followed my posts in the past noone has answered the one question I asked- WHAT HAS HARVEY LEVINSON DONE FOR THE TAXPAYERS OF NASSAU COUNTY - CONCRETE PROOF OF ANY ACCOMPLISHMENT HE HAS MADE TO MAKE OUR LIVES BETTER???

That is all I want to hear no more of the same old 100yrs of the GOP, how Gulotta nearly bankrupted the County, just an answer & not anything regarding his plan or his ideas - A CONCRETE ANSWER - no more BS!!!

To Franklin Square resident - Of course they voted for it - they compromised and forced the Democrats and the County Executive to put 100 MORE POLICE ON THE STREETS!!!

Are you kidding me with your BS, Tom Souzzi & the democrats wanted a balanced signed budget by election day - If they had to they would have sold their first born in order to do it, so that statement is nothing more than TYPICAL BS!!!!

And as far as Harvey Levinson I knew that because he is certainly not doing "HIS JOB" the one he is paid to do!!!!

He has spent the entire year doing NOTHING but planning and running for the TOH position - He should have been doing his JOB and fix the broken system he was elected to do !!!!

Once last thing you and the rest of the whiny democratic party can take your remarks about Kate's mailing and stick them where the sun doesn't shine as far as I'm concerned!!!

Do even know what BS it is???

Do you even have a clue???

Do you even know how much Tom Souzzi's PERSONAL mailing budget is for the County????

Try $500,000.00 that's right 1/2 million dollars just for the County Executor's mailings!!!!

So when you want to speak about Kate's mailings, you had better check the facts first because Tom is no better than Kate as far as spending is concerned!!!!

Have a nice day can't wait to see your responses!!!

  9. To ncres4change: You, sir, have the mental capacity of a sponge.

Check that. I would denegrate sponges everywhere to place you at their level of thought. At least sponges have the capacity to absorb!

I encourage everyone reading these blogs and their comments to pay particular attention to what ncres4change has to say -- assuming you can understand a word of it.

THIS is the hobgoblin of the little minds that support and keep the GOP Machine in power. THIS is the unreasoning, illogical, out-of-touch with reality thought process that keeps our town in the dark ages of political stewardship.

IT IS TIME, AT LONG LAST, FOR A CHANGE! Thank you. Next window please...

  10. Mind of a Sponge I like that!!!

Just goes to show everyone reading these postings that you don't have the balls to simply answer the question presented to you!!

As far as keeping people in the dark - you and the democratic party are nothing more than a bunch of hypocrites!!!

The Community Alliance has an ongoing Murray Meter but Hmmm God forbid anyone bring out the point that Tom Souzzi has 1/2 Million budget just for his personal mailings????

    Are you F**KING kidding me????

IT IS A TIME FOR CHANGE AND YOU AND THE REST OF THE HYPOCRITAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY ARE GOING TO SEE IT ON ELECTION DAY - TOM SOUZZI OUT, HARVEY LEVINSON WILL GET HIS ASS KICKED BACKED TO THE ASSESSORS OFFICE - WHERE MAYBE HE WILL DO HIS JOB & FINALLY THE LEGISLATURE WILL HAVE A COMPLETE AND UTTER ENEMA CLEANING OUT ALL OF THE DEMOCRATIC INCUMBENTS!!!!

Now you see franklin square res you are of little mind at least a sponge can absorb and grow but you are a MUSHROOM where the only place you can grow is in the darkness amongst the S**T

    Have a nice day!!!

And by the way keep em coming and just maybe you or one of your Democratic colleagues will answer my question about Harvey Levinson which I posted earlier???

    ReplyDelete
  11. I will never argue which party is better, they are both the same, but when you leave 1 party to rule for 100 years there will be corruption. Harvey has done a better job with an office that was in total dissary and you never seem to answer my question. The Republican platform or philosiphy is for less Government and lower taxes. Why no consolidation of taxing districts? Why are we the highest taxed with the most government jobs? Why are our towns are roads worst than queens. Why has there been no or very little done against multi family homes. Why is Kate so against an income tax to replace the regressive school tax. I have no problem with Harveys office he doesn't raise my taxes as far as my assessment is concered it is right on the mark. Houses are selling for prices much higher than our assessment. How ever I do have a problem with all the taxing districts including the school taxes which are killing us. That is why I support Harvey he is talking about the issues that are killing us. If Kate would talk about these issues she would get my vote hands down but she is ruled by the kingdom of 1 party rule of town hall. Have a great night. There needs to be a change with fresh ideas and Kate or anyone else from the GOP can't do it because they need to protect all the families jobs.

  12. Well Pat when you or anyone else answers my question first then I will be happy to answer all of yours??

Your belief that Harvey Levinson and the NC Assessments do not raise your taxes is fine; You can BELIEVE what you want - the proof is in the pudding.

The Democratic party right now is only doing 2 things in my opinion- first off they are all saying the same EXACT statements when interviewed or during a debate - They blame EVERYTHING under the sun on the TOH noone else and Secondly they keep doing the same line over and over just like you are - " 100 yrs. of control, corruption, they almost bankrupted the County, BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Enough already, yes when Tom Gulotta was in office he almost bankrupted the County - OK we know that move on!!!!

Corruption- Give me a break - ALL politicians are corrupt at some point in time - it depends on what you consider CORRUPT???

Hiring friends & family - Corrupt?

Hiring only within your party - Corrupt?

Giving High wages to "No-Show" employees - Corrupt?

Selling - County or Town properties without open bidding - Corrupt?

The facts speak for themselves, and just because one party is currently in office it doesn't mean that changes can't be made to the current situation.

Newer fresher approaches can be considered when the tax payers press the current or future administrations to do so.

By any chance did you watch the live debate last night for County Executive??

How many times did Tom Souzzi NOT answer the questions??

How many times did he blame the TOH for his problems??

And finally how can anyone vote for the County Executive when he couldn't even commit to the answer of serving a FULL term of office??

He didn't even answer the question when asked- He beat around the bush, he is running for Governor end of story- He should not be running for County Executive!!!

And both parties better beware because Mr.Bruno may not be a career politician but he may draw alot of votes his way.

I am not voting for either Tom or Harvey - Greg Petersen seems to have an honest approach to helping out the County and I believe he will work with Kate Murray in the TOH to achieve what you call the Republicans philosophy or lessening Government and saving the tax payers money from both the County & the TOH.

The Democrats won't work with the Republicans and vice-versa, that is why I feel that Republican CE & Republican TOH Supervisor will work together to achieve the goals needed.

Enough said - Answer me this - What is the Democratic Philosophy??
